My long, hard, journey with TFA Sour...

Posted by DeeeGenerate on 28th Dec 2020

I am very surprised by the positive reviews for TFA Sour... I am a huge fan of sour-type flavors, but I honestly do not get a sour effect when I mix with this. A slight tartness perhaps, but definitely not sour. I believe that a placebo effect is coming into play here. Experienced mixers on forums everywhere believe that this flavor does very little to bring the Sour. If anything, TFA Sour seems more likely to MUTE tart flavors than to accentuate them. I wish somebody had told me this before I wasted so much time trying to make this one work.

    Very nice

A really nice sour note around .5% just what I was looking for. At 1% there’s some harshness that would need to steep out but over all a nice flavor additive.

Great additive to mix up Something sour

Posted by SlyFox on 8th Sep 2016

I use this in my blue razz recipe and it adds the extra sour tone not found in Blueberry Candy on it's own. It also is great if you want to keep the percentages down. What was a much higher percentage of Blueberry candy was cut by more than half by using this sour. 2% in a mix gives pretty good sour taste. Have not tried this one alone.

    Good sour note

Works well for balancing out mixes, use at low percentage to give that little bit of tartness many fruits have. Also helps to brighten up fruits in mixes.
